Part of what makes Delta Dental insurance have such great overall value is the broad range of options of insurance plans they have available to consumers. There are three main categories of insurance plans offered: individuals and families, small businesses, and retirees. Within those three categories, there are several options to choose from. For instance, there are 5 different plans within the “individual and families” category alone. Furthermore, Delta Dental covers a relatively large area, with featured plans offered in Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, South Dakota, Virginia, and Wisconsin and coverage offered to some degree in all 50 states of the U.S.

Does Delta Dental provide orthodontic treatment coverage?

Delta Dental Premier®

Delta Dental Premier® orthodontic insurance offers the largest network of providers, and is a fee-for-service plan. While it may offer orthodontic treatment coverage in some cases, this is dependent on the plans available in your state and what they consider “covered treatments”.

Delta Dental PPO

Delta Dental PPO is a preferred-provider option program, which means that the providers who are in-network offer patients reduced fees for covered treatments. Like Delta Dental Premier®, orthodontic coverage will vary by the specific Delta Dental PPO plan that you get.

DeltaCare®

DeltaCare® is Delta Dental’s health maintenance organization (HMO) plan. It focuses on preventive care and has minimal or no co-payments for preventive care treatment. DeltaCare® does offer orthodontic treatment for both children and adults in most cases, but the options can be limited. Like the other two Delta Dental plans discussed above, orthodontic treatment coverage depends on the specific plan you end up with, which can vary by state.

Are invisible aligners and braces covered by Delta Dental?

Does Delta Dental cover braces? Determining whether or not invisible aligners and braces are covered by Delta Dental isn’t as straightforward as it may seem. If you get even more specific and start to consider invisible aligners vs. braces, coverage varies even more. The plans offered and what they include as covered treatment can vary by state, which subsequently makes it more difficult to definitively say whether specific orthodontic treatments (like invisible aligners and braces) are covered by Delta Dental. Not all Delta Dental plans will cover Invisalign treatment. The Delta Dental PPO plan may cover a portion of the cost of treatment, but this will depend on your specific plan. Additionally, you will very likely have to go to an orthodontist who is within network with Delta Dental to actually receive these benefits. Other plans, like DeltaCare, are less likely to provide coverage for Invisalign treatment.
